Welcome to Hope Tour Basketball!
At Hope Tour Basketball, we believe in the power of hope, resilience, and the transformative impact of sports on individuals and communities. Founded by Peter Kiganya—A Hall of Famer at Abilene Christian and one of the most accomplished basketball player out of Kenya —our mission is simple: to inspire the next generation of basketball talent while giving back to the communities that helped shape us.
”Our Youth DO NOT want handouts. Sometimes they want us to pause and see things from their perspective instead of us talking about OUR TIME. I had a great conversation with Erick in Thika, we shared our stories and found common ground through our journeys. Keep walking Erick and tell your own story. No one can tell it better than you !!!.”
– Peter Kiganya
Hope Tour Basketball envisions a community where sports serve as a vehicle for empowerment, resilience, and transformation, paving the way for young individuals to achieve their dreams and positively impact the world around them.
To INSPIRE the NEXT GENERATION of basketball talent while giving back to the communities that helped shape us. We are committed to empowering the youth to reach their full potential, both on and off the court.

Peter Kiganya, also known as Leon Africano (a nickname given to him by the media and basketball fans in South America), stands as one of Kenya’s most distinguished basketball players, leaving a lasting legacy that has inspired athletes both in Kenya and worldwide. His journey—from the streets of Nairobi to basketball courts in the U.S., South America, and beyond—illustrates the transformative power of sports, dedication, hard work, and a deep love for the game.
Growing up in Nairobi, Peter was always tall and athletic, but his early interests lay in music and theatre. It wasn’t until his junior year of high school that he discovered basketball, and the transformation was immediate. By his senior year, Peter was already turning heads with his natural talent and drive.
During his college career, Peter earned accolades such as Co-MVP of the Lone Star Conference, inducted into the Hall of Fame at ACU in 2016, and was named as one of the Wildcats’ Starting Five chosen by fans as the top Wildcat players during their tenure in the Lone Star Conference. cementing his status as a star in the sport.
Peter’s success wasn’t limited to the U.S. He went on to make a mark in top basketball leagues across South America and won championships in Chile, Paraguay, and Peru. He was honored multiple times as the Best Import Player in Chile and Paraguay. Though his playing days came to an end in 2012, Peter’s influence on the global basketball scene only continued to expand, as he began to shift his focus toward mentoring and coaching the next generation of players. He was a graduate assistant for three years and has been a USAB Youth Coach since 2016.
